IT'S NOT everybody's idea of commuting, but fire engine enthusiasts John Gliddon (left) and Tony Cox think its pretty hot stuff. Occasionally John, in his 1921 Garford, passes Tony's 1936 Ace going in the opposite direction across the Harbour Bridge to work. Unlike most vintage car buffs, John and
|Tony regularly use their fire trucks to get to work. Tony says his,
complete with built-in drinks cooler, can hit a top speed of around 90 kilometres an hour.
And what about fuel economy? "It's 40 smiles a mile!"
